Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has described the temporary release of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to attend his mother’s burial as a humane and commendable decision.

In a statement, Adeyanju noted that while the gesture reflects empathy and respect for human dignity, it is crucial that such a decision is backed by a valid court order, given that El-Rufai was remanded in custody by the court.

He emphasized that granting temporary release under such circumstances should not be seen as an attempt to evade justice, but rather as a lawful and compassionate consideration in deserving situations.

According to him, the move demonstrates a necessary balance between upholding the rule of law and recognizing fundamental human values.
Adeyanju further commended the authorities for showing empathy while maintaining respect for legal processes, stressing that adherence to due process remains essential in preserving public trust in the justice system.
