Nigeria has commended the outgoing Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Nigeria, Alfredo Miranda Ortiz, for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

The commendation was conveyed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a farewell audience held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Ambassador Ortiz expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government for its cooperation throughout his nearly four-year tenure, noting substantial progress in diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Mexico.

He highlighted key achievements, including the establishment of the Nigeria/Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the appointment of an Honorary Consul in Lagos. He also noted increased agricultural trade cooperation, particularly under the SENASICA–NAQS framework, which has boosted Nigeria’s hibiscus exports to Mexico.

The Permanent Secretary, while conveying the Minister’s apologies for his absence due to official engagements, praised the Ambassador’s dedication and the positive impact of his service on bilateral relations.

He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and attracting foreign direct investment, encouraging Mexican investors to explore opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and the digital economy.

Ambassador Ahmed also noted that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Mexico, describing it as a major milestone in their enduring partnership.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining diplomatic momentum through continued engagement and implementation of existing agreements.

Ambassador Ortiz expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue supporting Nigeria–Mexico relations even after his diplomatic service.
