Governor Bala Mohammed has called for expanded economic, agricultural, and industrial collaboration between Nigeria and the Iran.

The Bauchi State governor made the appeal while speaking at the 47th anniversary of Iran’s National Day held at the Iranian Embassy in Abuja.

Describing Iran as “a friend of the downtrodden,” Mohammed said both countries should strengthen ties in ways that promote economic independence and self-reliance.

Mining and Industrial Value Chain
The governor revealed that an Iranian company is establishing a major lead and zinc project in Bauchi State, which is known for having some of Nigeria’s largest deposits of the minerals.

According to him, the investment is expected to go beyond raw material extraction.
“They are going to create a value chain around the industry, not just take away raw materials,” Mohammed said, indicating that processing and industrial development would be part of the project.

Agriculture and Livestock Partnerships
Mohammed also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in agriculture and livestock development.

He noted that while Bauchi has vast arable land, Iran possesses technological expertise that could help improve productivity.

He referenced artificial insemination and other modern livestock practices as areas that could enhance milk and cattle production. Plans for ranch development, he said, would further increase yields across the sector.

The governor assured potential Iranian investors of a conducive business environment, describing Nigeria as a welcoming destination for lawful enterprise.

Iran Reaffirms Commitment
Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mahdavi Raja, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, describing Nigeria as “a reliable partner for sustainable development.”

He pointed to Iran’s strides in science, technology, healthcare, and non-oil exports despite economic sanctions, expressing optimism that stronger ties would deliver mutual benefits.

Addressing recent geopolitical tensions, Raja stated that Iran had engaged in nuclear discussions in good faith but condemned what he described as military aggression by Israel, with U.S. participation. He added that while Iran would defend its sovereignty, it remains committed to diplomacy.

Nigeria Backs Peaceful Engagement
Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Iran on its 47th anniversary.

He described Iran as an important Middle Eastern country and valuable member of the international community, noting that trade between both nations continues to grow across energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and consumer goods.

Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful diplomacy, respect for sovereignty, and international law, while expressing hope for continued constructive engagement between both countries.
