Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), describing the decision as a positive step toward strengthening Nigeria’s justice system.

In a statement, Adeyanju noted that Oyedepo’s record of professional integrity and independence of mind makes him well-suited for a role that lies at the core of the rule of law. According to him, the office of the DPP requires not only legal expertise but also courage, impartiality, and a firm commitment to due process.

He further stated that by entrusting such a sensitive and critical position to a seasoned legal practitioner, President Tinubu has demonstrated that meaningful reform of the justice sector can be anchored on competence, professionalism, and respect for the law.

Adeyanju expressed optimism that the appointment, if sustained within a broader framework of institutional reform, could help restore public confidence in the prosecution process and reaffirm the role of public prosecutions as a genuine instrument of justice rather than persecution.

He concluded by describing the appointment as commendable and deserving of public applause.
Deji Adeyanju, Esq.
