The National Senior Citizens Centre is deeply saddened by the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a distinguished statesman and exceptional Senior Citizen who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria.
An official statement by NSCC Director General, Mrs Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, signed by the Head Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications, Mr Omini Oden reveals that the, foundational landmark legislation, the National Senior Citizens Centre bill was signed into law by the late President Muhammadu Buhari. This made way for the establishment of the National Senior Citizens Centre and the pursuant directive to advocate to sub-national governments in the country to domesticate the Act.
Until the National Senior Citizens Centre Act 2017 was signed, there were no concrete procedures and mechanisms for older persons to participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of development activities that have direct impact on their lives in Nigeria.
NSCC described the late former President Buhari who died at 82, as an exceptional Senior Citizen who has left behind a legacy of discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the nation’s development.
NSCC DG, Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, on behalf of the National Senior Citizens Centre, extends heartfelt condolences to the family, the government and people of Nigeria. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, reward his noble deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
