
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunny and thundery weather conditions across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
In its three-day weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet predicted predominantly sunny skies across the northern region throughout the forecast period.
For Tuesday, the agency anticipates sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North Central region, alongside isolated thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, and Kogi states during the afternoon and evening hours.
In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are likely over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom, while later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected across Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
On Wednesday, the northern region will continue to experience sunny skies, with a chance of morning thunderstorms in southern Taraba. The North Central region is expected to have partly cloudy conditions, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi.
The South will see a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine, with early morning thunderstorms likely in Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, thunderstorms may occur in Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.
Thursday’s forecast remains similar, with sunny skies in the North and cloudy conditions with patches of sun in the North Central. Isolated thunderstorms are expected over the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa later in the day.
The South will likely experience morning thunderstorms in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, with isolated storms in the afternoon and evening across Oyo, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers.
NiMet urged the public to take necessary precautions against heat stress due to persistently high temperatures. It advised staying in well-ventilated spaces, staying hydrated, and avoiding exposure to direct sunlight between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The agency also recommended vaccination against meningitis, regular hand washing, use of nose masks, and avoiding overcrowded areas to reduce the risk of infections.
“Strong winds may precede thunderstorms. The public should take adequate precautions,” NiMet warned, while also advising airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe operations.
