Nigeria is set to host the inaugural Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit in 2025, a landmark event aimed at fostering strategic military cooperation and tackling shared security challenges across the continent.
Speaking at the inauguration of the summit’s planning committee, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, described the event as a “historic opportunity” for African defence leaders to engage in frank, collaborative, and forward-looking dialogue.
“This summit must be grand and memorable,” General Musa emphasized. “Nigeria must demonstrate leadership. The hallmark of this event should be security, excellence in organisation, and innovation.”
He charged the committee with delivering a high-impact summit, urging its members to bring creativity, professionalism, and commitment to the task. He also assured them of the Defence Headquarters’ full support throughout the planning process.
The committee is chaired by Retired Major General Olufemi Akinjobi, who expressed deep appreciation for the confidence reposed in the team. He pledged their dedication to making the summit a success.
“We will give this our very best,” Akinjobi stated. “This summit is both timely and necessary. It’s time for African Defence Chiefs to speak with one voice, and this platform will make that possible.”
The African Business Roundtable (ABR) has been enlisted as a strategic partner for the summit, with the CDS commending its role in ensuring the event meets global standards.
With preparations already underway, expectations are high. As host, Nigeria is poised to lead the charge in uniting Africa’s defence leadership and setting the tone for deeper continental collaboration in security affairs.
