In a strategic push towards Nigeria’s green energy transition, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, led a high-level delegation to UROVESA, a leading Spanish manufacturer of military and industrial vehicles. The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) technology for powering Nigeria’s defence and industrial fleets.
A statement by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the visit. The minister was joined by key officials, including Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo; Presidential CNG Initiative representative, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi; Engr. Henry Oki; and the Special Assistant for Gas Business and Investment to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas).
During discussions with UROVESA executives, Tuggar underscored the strong trade relationship between Nigeria and Spain, highlighting Spain’s position as one of Nigeria’s top trading partners, with crude oil exports amounting to $3.64 billion in 2023. He commended UROVESA’s expertise in manufacturing all-terrain, armoured, tactical, and logistical vehicles and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to integrating CNG-powered solutions.
The minister also emphasized Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, positioning the country as a prime hub for investment in clean energy technologies. The meeting opened avenues for future collaboration between UROVESA and Nigeria’s Ministry of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) to enhance the country’s transition to CNG-powered vehicle production and supply.
This engagement not only reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable energy but also laid the groundwork for modernizing its defence and industrial sectors with cost-effective, eco-friendly solutions. The discussions mark a significant step toward a strategic partnership expected to drive innovation and economic growth for both Nigeria and UROVESA.
