The Obidient Movement has announced plans to honour protesters who lost their lives during the #EndSARS demonstrations with a nationwide candlelight vigil, balloon release and prayer session scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Tagged “Obidients Remember,” the event is expected to take place across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), bringing members of the movement and support groups together to pay tribute to those who died during the protests.

According to the movement’s announcement, activities will begin at 5:00 p.m., while the venue is expected to be announced later. The Global Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Mo, is listed as the host.

State coordinators and support groups have been urged to mobilise members for the remembrance activities, which will include prayers, candle lighting and balloon releases. Organisers also said a condolence register would be available for participants to record their names and the support groups they represent.

Participants have been asked to wear all-black attire as a mark of respect for the deceased.

The #EndSARS protests gained momentum in October 2020, as thousands of young Nigerians took to the streets to demand an end to police brutality and the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos became a major focal point of the demonstrations, particularly following events of October 20, 2020. Those events remain a subject of public discussion and calls for accountability.

The planned remembrance comes six years after the protests began, offering participants an opportunity to reflect on the demonstrations, honour those who lost their lives and renew attention to demands for justice, accountability and respect for human rights.

With activities planned across the country, the Obidient Movement is calling on its members and support groups to participate in the October 20 remembrance.
