The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Felix Onigbinde, an award-winning photojournalist with the Nigerian Tribune newspaper.
Onigbinde reportedly fell into a coma last week and was admitted to Garki General Hospital, Abuja, where he died.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Council described his death as heartbreaking, noting that his passing had created a painful void among colleagues, friends and the wider journalism community.
The statement, signed by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, described Onigbinde as a dedicated journalist whose career reflected his commitment to documenting events and informing the public through photography.
He began his journalism career with Daily Trust newspaper before joining the Nigerian Tribune, where he worked until his death.

As a photojournalist, Onigbinde contributed to public-interest journalism by capturing events and telling stories through images.
The NUJ FCT Council extended its condolences to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN), his colleagues, friends and professional associates.
The Council also commiserated with his immediate family, particularly his wife and two children, who are left to bear the loss of their husband and father.
Onigbinde hailed from Ife Modakeke in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State. He will be remembered for his contributions to journalism and his service to society through his profession.
The Council prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to his wife, children, extended family, colleagues and all those mourning his death.
