The Federal Government is working to harmonise Nigeria’s 2027 external examination timetable, with a target of releasing key examination results by August to enable eligible candidates to begin tertiary institution admission processes in September.
The initiative is part of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which the government says is designed to improve coordination, efficiency and educational outcomes.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, convened a meeting with heads and representatives of examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja to discuss the proposed timetable.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the meeting focused on aligning examination schedules, reducing timetable clashes and ensuring the timely processing and release of results.
Proposed 2027 Examination Dates
Under the proposed schedule, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is expected to hold from March 15 to 25, with results targeted for release in March.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) is proposed for April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is scheduled for May 11 to June 18.
Results for both NECO and WAEC examinations are expected in August 2027.
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examination is proposed for June 1 to July 5, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examination is scheduled for June 10 to July 9. Results for both examinations are also targeted for August.
Government Seeks Better Coordination
The ministry said it would continue engaging the examination bodies to encourage compliance with the proposed timelines, strengthen accountability and align results releases with tertiary admission schedules.
If implemented successfully, the plan could give candidates more time to prepare their applications and complete admission requirements without waiting until late in the year for examination results.
However, the dates remain proposed schedules, and candidates should follow official announcements from JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS for confirmation of their respective examination timetables.
The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the initiative reflects its commitment to education reform through NESRI and improving timely access to tertiary education.
