A twin sister who was a medical doctor and her pharmacist sibling have died two days apart following complications associated with sickle cell disease in Yobe State.
The deceased, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, were the twin daughters of Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru.
Hadiyah, a medical doctor, died on Friday, October 2, 2026, after reportedly spending about a week at FMC Nguru while receiving treatment following a sickle cell crisis.
She was later laid to rest after funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru.

Her twin sister, Aidah, a pharmacist, was also receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period. She was reportedly discharged after initially recovering.
According to reports, Aidah visited her sister’s grave two days after the burial. She reportedly became unwell shortly after the visit and was taken to hospital, where she later died on Sunday, October 4.
FMC Nguru confirmed Aidah’s death in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as the “second twin” of Professor Usman.
The deaths of the two sisters have drawn widespread sympathy, particularly because of the short period between their passing.
