The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated Morocco and its people following the appointment of Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country’s first female Prime Minister.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI appointed El Mansouri as Head of Government on September 29, 2026, and tasked her with forming a new government. Her appointment followed the September 23 parliamentary election in which her Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) emerged with the largest number of seats.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria described the development as a significant milestone in Morocco’s political history.
The Federal Government extended its congratulations and best wishes to El Mansouri as she takes on the responsibility of forming and leading a new government.
Nigeria also expressed its readiness to work closely with the new Moroccan government to further strengthen the longstanding relationship between both countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria is confident that the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries will continue to grow for the benefit of their citizens.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria warmly congratulates the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco on the historic emergence of Her Excellency Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country’s new and first female Prime Minister,” the statement said.

Nigeria also wished King Mohammed VI continued health and happiness while extending its wishes for peace, stability, progress and prosperity to the Moroccan government and people under El Mansouri’s leadership.
El Mansouri’s appointment marks the first time a woman has headed Morocco’s government. She is also the coordinator of the collective leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party.
The development comes as Morocco begins the process of forming a new government following the September 2026 parliamentary elections.
