The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation work on vandalised sections of the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line.
The rehabilitation covers Towers J4 and N9 to N12, which were affected by recent acts of vandalism.
During an inspection of the project site on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond, assessed the progress of the ongoing work.
Dr. Raymond said the inspection was aimed at ensuring that the rehabilitation complied with approved engineering specifications while allowing necessary adjustments to be made promptly.
He said significant progress had already been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled and their bases recast.
The AGM also appealed to residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and help protect critical electricity infrastructure in their communities from vandals and other criminal elements.
At the site, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous monitoring to ensure that the rehabilitation work meets required engineering standards.
He commended TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the project, but noted that difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had affected the pace of construction.
Also speaking, the Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far.
He commended the contractors for their commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum towards completing the rehabilitation as quickly as possible.
