The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the recent political violence reported in Jega Local Government Area and prosecute anyone found responsible.
The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Isah Asalafy, made the call during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
Asalafy said the APC would not support political violence, stressing that political campaigns should not involve attacks on people or destruction of property.
He urged security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the incident, identify those involved and take appropriate legal action, regardless of their political affiliation or position.
The APC spokesman said political parties have the right to campaign and mobilise supporters, but such activities should be conducted peacefully and without inflammatory statements capable of escalating tensions.
He also urged members of the APC to exercise restraint and avoid abusive or inciting comments against individuals or rival political parties.
The call comes amid reports of political violence and property destruction in parts of Jega. Other reports on the incident have also cited calls for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The APC urged political actors and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and allow security agencies to investigate the incident and determine responsibility based on evidence.
