The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, as the National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu formally presented the appointment to Agboola at the Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of activities marking International Youth Day 2026 under the National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative.

The appointment recognises Agboola’s achievements as a technology entrepreneur and his leadership in building Flutterwave into a leading African financial technology company, particularly in innovation, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and responsible enterprise.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, the initiative is designed to leverage positive youth leadership and credible role models to promote peacebuilding, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and constructive civic participation among young Nigerians.

The Force said the initiative will also encourage young people to reject cybercrime and other social vices while pursuing legitimate opportunities that can contribute to national development.

The IGP said the appointment underscores the Police Force’s commitment to engaging young Nigerians as partners in building safer communities and promoting responsible citizenship.

Disu also highlighted the need to equip young police officers with knowledge of emerging technologies and their application to modern policing.

He said strengthening officers’ expertise in digital tools, technology and cyber-related investigative techniques would enhance the Force’s capacity to investigate cybercrime, trace digital evidence and respond effectively to technology-enabled criminality.

The IGP charged Agboola to use his influence to inspire young Nigerians to embrace integrity, responsible innovation and legitimate opportunities while making meaningful contributions to national development.

Responding, Agboola thanked the IGP for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to support the objectives of the initiative, particularly in youth empowerment, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and peaceful civic engagement.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to strategic partnerships that promote youth empowerment, technological innovation and cybersecurity, while positioning young Nigerians as partners in building safer communities and advancing national development.
