Electricity consumers in parts of Abuja are expected to experience a temporary power outage on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out urgent repairs at the Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.

TCN said the 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation would be shut down for three hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to enable its technical team to repair the 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor at the facility.

The maintenance exercise is expected to affect electricity supply to several areas within the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) network.

Areas listed as likely to experience the interruption include Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Center, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension, Trademoore and adjoining communities.

According to TCN, the temporary shutdown is necessary to enable the technical team to carry out the repairs safely and efficiently.

The transmission company apologized to affected electricity consumers for the inconvenience, stressing that the maintenance is aimed at ensuring the stability and reliability of the transmission network.

Power supply is expected to resume to the affected areas after the completion of the repair work, subject to normal system operations.
