The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.

The affected transmission line tripped at about 5:38 p.m. on August 26, 2026. TCN said it carried out a trial reclosure at approximately 6:03 p.m., but the line tripped again immediately.

Following the repeated trip, TCN linesmen conducted a fault-finding patrol along the line and discovered that transmission towers T109, T110 and T111 had collapsed at Chibike village in Kebbi State.

According to the transmission company, the towers were brought down by heavy rainfall accompanied by a windstorm in the area.

The collapse has disrupted the transmission of bulk electricity to Niamey through the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey line.

TCN said it has mobilised personnel and resources to the affected location and commenced efforts to rehabilitate the collapsed towers and restore the transmission line to service as quickly as possible.

The company also apologised to electricity consumers in Niamey for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

TCN assured affected consumers that all necessary measures were being taken to restore the transmission line and normal power supply as soon as possible.
