The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has congratulated the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, on her conferment with the traditional title “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I,” meaning First Daughter of Hausa Land, by the Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruk Umar.
Kankia described the honour as a significant recognition of Musawa’s public profile and her role in promoting Hausa cultural heritage.
In a congratulatory message, the APC National Legal Adviser said he had long believed that Musawa would attain a position from which she could meaningfully represent and promote the heritage of Hausa land.
“I know one day she will earn a position representing Hausa land and its heritage,” Kankia said.
He noted that the traditional recognition was particularly significant given Musawa’s current position as Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, where she oversees key areas of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, tourism and creative industries.
Kankia also referenced descriptions of Musawa as “Queen Amina of our time,” comparing her public profile to that of the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.
According to him, the comparison reflects the expectations placed on Musawa to promote the cultural identity, heritage and values of the Hausa people.
The title was conferred on the minister by the Emir of Daura, one of the prominent traditional institutions in northern Nigeria.
Kankia urged Musawa to regard the honour not only as a personal achievement but also as a responsibility to the people and cultural heritage she is being recognised to represent.
He expressed confidence that Musawa would use her position in government to further promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage and strengthen the contribution of the creative and tourism sectors to national development.
The commendation comes as Nigeria continues to place greater emphasis on the arts, culture, tourism and creative industries as potential drivers of economic diversification, employment and national identity.
