ABUJA – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Riliwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting the nation’s power infrastructure and intensifying efforts to combat vandalism and energy theft across the country.

The assurance came during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Power, Hon. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Power to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Mahmud Mamman, Director of Distribution, Engr. Mustapha Baba-Umara, Director of Energy Resources, Engr. Kingsley Eneh, and the Special Assistant to the Minister, Mr. Martins Olajide.

During the meeting, both parties discussed growing security challenges affecting Nigeria’s electricity sector, particularly the persistent vandalisation of critical power infrastructure and widespread energy theft.

The Minister of Power sought stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to improve surveillance of critical electricity installations, safeguard national power assets and strengthen enforcement against individuals and groups involved in vandalism and illegal electricity activities.

Responding, IGP Disu assured the delegation of the Police Force’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Ministry of Power in protecting critical national infrastructure.

He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to strengthen security around power facilities and ensure that individuals responsible for vandalism and energy theft are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to enhancing energy security and protecting infrastructure critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and national development.
