The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, legislative and economic cooperation with Nigeria during a meeting with the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission, Anthony Okorie Ani.
The meeting, held on July 7, comes as both countries commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria.
Ambassador Yu said the relationship between the two countries has continued to grow over the past five decades, built on mutual respect, equality and cooperation.
He noted that under the leadership of Xi Jinping and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, China-Nigeria relations have maintained strong momentum through expanding political, economic and development partnerships.
According to the ambassador, China is ready to work closely with Nigeria to implement agreements reached by both leaders, deepen cooperation between government institutions and legislatures, and continue supporting each other on issues of mutual interest.

He added that both countries remain committed to strengthening the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through sustained dialogue and practical collaboration.
Responding, Senator Anthony Ani expressed appreciation for China’s long-standing support for Nigeria’s economic and social development.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the One-China Principle, describing stronger Nigeria-China cooperation as essential to the country’s long-term development.
The senator also encouraged more Chinese companies to invest in Nigeria, noting that increased investment would support economic growth, infrastructure development and job creation.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to expanding bilateral relations through diplomacy, trade, investment and legislative engagement.
