Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has commended the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, and Nigeria’s security agencies for securing the release of pupils and teachers abducted during a recent school attack in Oyo State.
In a statement, Adeyanju described the safe return of the victims as a source of relief to their families and Nigerians who had anxiously awaited their rescue.
He praised the efforts of all those involved in the rescue operation, saying the development reflects the importance of coordinated action in addressing insecurity.
While welcoming the release of the victims, the lawyer called on the relevant authorities to provide information on the whereabouts of the body of the teacher reportedly killed during the abduction.
According to him, the deceased teacher’s family deserves the opportunity to recover the body and give their loved one a dignified burial.
Adeyanju also urged the government to focus on the rehabilitation and psychosocial recovery of the rescued pupils and teachers, noting that the trauma they experienced should not be ignored.
He further appealed to the government to award scholarships to the affected pupils up to the university level as a way of supporting their education and demonstrating the nation’s commitment to their future.
The lawyer also called for stronger measures to end the recurring abduction of schoolchildren across Nigeria, stressing that every child deserves a safe and secure learning environment.
He expressed hope that the incident would strengthen ongoing efforts to improve security nationwide and prevent similar attacks on schools.
