Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s football sector to embrace unity and collaboration to advance the development of the game across the country.

Shaibu made the appeal during a Night of Tribute organised in honour of late Nigerian football legend, Henry Onyemanze Nwosu (MON), held at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos.

The NIS Director General attended the event alongside members of the Student Union Government (SUG) and the management team of the National Institute for Sports, reflecting the institution’s commitment to celebrating sports icons and promoting leadership values among young Nigerians.

Speaking at the tribute event, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State stressed the importance of cooperation among football administrators, coaches, players and other stakeholders, noting that unity remains essential for the sustainable growth of Nigerian football.

He urged members of the football community to work collectively in the interest of the sport and future generations of athletes.

Shaibu also conveyed the condolences of the National Institute for Sports to the family, friends and associates of the late Henry Nwosu.

He described the former Green Eagles star as an outstanding football ambassador, mentor and role model whose contributions to Nigerian football remain significant and enduring.

According to him, Nwosu’s discipline, commitment and leadership qualities should serve as inspiration to young sports enthusiasts and administrators across the country.

The Night of Tribute attracted former footballers, sports administrators, coaches, family members and admirers who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the late football icon.

Participants paid glowing tributes to Henry Nwosu for his remarkable achievements and lasting impact on Nigerian football and the wider sporting community.
