The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening school security across the country as African nations move to adopt Nigeria’s Safe Schools Initiative model.
IGP Disu made this known while receiving Her Excellency Ambassador Jainaba Jagne, Special Envoy for Children Affected by Armed Conflict (CAAC), alongside an international delegation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit formed part of a strategic study tour of the Nigeria Police Force Schools Protection Squad Command and Control Centre under the Safe Schools Declaration framework.
The delegation included representatives from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Ethiopia, the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), and Save the Children International.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Jainaba Jagne praised the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in protecting schools and educational institutions, noting that several African countries were studying Nigeria’s Safe Schools model for possible adoption.
She explained that member states of the African Union had shown strong interest in Nigeria’s approach as part of wider continental efforts to safeguard children and schools affected by insecurity and armed conflict.
In his remarks, IGP Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, rapid response operations, patrol teams, and technology-driven strategies to improve school safety nationwide.
The police boss also appreciated the visiting delegation for recognising Nigeria’s efforts in promoting child protection and educational safety, while reiterating the Force’s readiness to support collaborative regional initiatives aimed at protecting schools across Africa.
