The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on Thursday, May 8, 2026, inspected the ongoing medical screening exercise for personnel at the Metro Area Command, Abuja, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the health, wellbeing and operational readiness of officers serving within the Federal Capital Territory.

The medical screening exercise, which commenced on Monday, May 4, 2026, is currently being conducted at the Metro Area Command as the pilot phase and will subsequently extend to all Area Commands and Divisions under the FCT Police Command.

Speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner of Police said the initiative became necessary due to the physical and emotional demands associated with policing the nation’s capital.

He further disclosed that the medical screening exercise would be continuous and would serve as an assessment programme aimed at monitoring the health status of officers, providing professional medical advice, and ensuring timely medical intervention where necessary.

CP Sanusi assured personnel that the exercise was not punitive, stressing that all medical results would remain confidential in line with professional medical ethics. According to him, officers would also receive individual counseling and guidance on how to properly manage their health conditions.

The Commissioner added that with the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Command has made arrangements for psychological counseling, physical exercise sessions and follow-up medical care for personnel requiring further medical attention after the screening exercise.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the welfare, fitness and mental wellbeing of officers to enhance effective policing and improve public safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
