The KGA NewsPoint Magazine has conferred a Special Award of Excellence on the Bursar of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Chief Paul Hassan Akpa, Ph.D, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, financial accountability and community development.
The award ceremony, held in Abuja on Friday, brought together media professionals, traditional leaders, academics, youth advocates and distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the renowned accountant and community leader.
Speaking during the event, the Special Project Editor of KGA NewsPoint Magazine, Longi Gukas, described the award recipient as a man whose dedication, hard work and achievements have distinguished him in public service.

According to him, the editorial team of the magazine unanimously selected Dr. Akpa for the recognition after carefully reviewing his track record of integrity, professionalism and service to humanity.
“It is an important moment for KGA NewsPoint Magazine as we celebrate excellence and honour a man who has shown uncommon commitment to leadership and accountability,” he said.
Also speaking, the Editorial Consultant of the magazine, Archibong Esuene, described Dr. Akpa as “a rare asset” whose influence extends beyond financial administration into community development and youth empowerment.
Esuene noted that the FUHSO bursar has consistently championed transparency and sound financial governance throughout his career, earning the trust of both public and private institutions.

He further commended Dr. Akpa’s role as a traditional title holder in Igala land, saying he has successfully bridged modern financial management with cultural values and grassroots development.
The citation presented at the ceremony highlighted Dr. Akpa’s educational journey from Federal Polytechnic Bida to obtaining advanced degrees in Accounting and Finance from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The citation also acknowledged his previous service as Bursar of the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State, where he completed a successful five-year tenure before his appointment as the second substantive bursar of FUHSO in May 2025.
Beyond academics and administration, the awardee was praised for his contributions to youth development, women empowerment and humanitarian service across communities irrespective of tribe or religion.

Dr. Akpa, who holds the revered traditional title of Omachi Ata’ Igala-Ika with the salutation “Waali,” was also celebrated for his professional fellowships and numerous national and international recognitions.

Chief Paul Hassan Akpa, Ph.D, expressed gratitude to KGA NewsPoint Magazine for honouring him with a Special Award of Excellence, describing the recognition as a reflection of his commitment to integrity, accountability, service and humanity.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the growth of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, the Igala nation and national development, while thanking everyone for the honour and prayers.
