A viral video showing former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, aboard a private jet has sparked widespread reactions on social media and renewed conversations about the lifestyles of Nigerian public office holders.
The short clip, which began circulating on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, captures the senator appearing relaxed inside the aircraft alongside an unidentified woman.
The footage has since drawn significant public attention, triggering debates around political privilege, accountability, and the perception of wealth among elected officials.
Reacting to the video, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju criticised Oshiomhole’s display, questioning the source of the senator’s wealth and contrasting it with his modest background as a former textile worker and labour union leader.
In a post on X, Adeyanju wrote:
“Comrade wey dey ball! Politics money is sweet. A former textile worker living like Pablo Escobar. No evidence he inherited money from rich parents or that he is a successful businessman or actively doing anything progressive today aside politics.”
Adeyanju’s remarks quickly gained traction online, amplifying the controversy and drawing mixed reactions from social media users. While some supported his concerns about transparency and accountability in public office, others argued that the video did not necessarily imply wrongdoing.
Oshiomhole, a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not publicly responded to the viral clip as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has once again highlighted broader public concerns about the conduct of political leaders and the widening gap between citizens and the political elite in Nigeria.
