Gajibo, Borno State – Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajibo village, Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, neutralizing several insurgents and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
The attack, launched at about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, was carried out by fighters from Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), according to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 7 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina.

Lt. Col. Jingina disclosed that troops stationed at the base put up stiff resistance before reinforcements from the Brigade Headquarters and the 134 Special Forces Battalion arrived to support the operation. The joint effort led to a successful counter-attack, resulting in the full reoccupation of the base and the neutralization of at least five terrorists.
Weapons and equipment recovered from the fleeing insurgents include:
One AK-101 rifle
One magazine with 13 rounds of 5.56mm NATO ammunition
51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
16 rounds of 5.56mm NATO ammunition
One unexploded grenade
One Baofeng radio
Two terrorist face masks
One pair of desert boots
One torchlight
“The Nigerian Army remains unwavering in its determination to eradicate terrorism from every inch of Nigerian soil,” the statement emphasized. “Despite the complex and evolving nature of asymmetric warfare, troops under Operation HADIN KAI are resolute in sustaining pressure on terrorist enclaves and intensifying counter-insurgency operations across the Northeast.”
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding civilians and ensuring the security of communities in the region, calling on the public to continue supporting security forces with timely information to aid ongoing operations.
