Nigeria’s Security Agencies Step Up Operations with Significant Results in August – JSPB Report
Abuja, September 8, 2025 – Nigeria’s security and regulatory agencies have intensified nationwide operations, recording sweeping successes in the month of August 2025, according to the latest Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing (JSPB) held at the National Orientation Agency Headquarters in Abuja.
The update revealed a consolidated effort by the Army, Police, NDLEA, EFCC, NAFDAC, and Immigration Service, showcasing the impact of coordinated intelligence, joint operations, and expanded community engagement in keeping Nigerians safe.

Key Operational Highlights:
Army: Executed 261 operations nationwide, repelled an ISWAP ambush in Borno, neutralized 30 terrorists in Zamfara, and facilitated the surrender of 76 insurgents, including women and children.
Police: Carried out 210 operations, made 1,950 arrests, dismantled 37 gangs, rescued 141 kidnap victims, and recovered 111 firearms and 48 explosives.
NDLEA: Seized a staggering 66,255.81 kg of narcotics, arrested 944 suspects, rehabilitated 854 users, and deployed 48 new vehicles nationwide.

Immigration: Approved 10,803 visas, intercepted 50 trafficking victims, deported or repatriated 473 persons, and disrupted illegal border activities.
According to the briefing, intelligence-led crackdowns have disrupted arms trafficking, kidnap syndicates, and terror logistics pipelines. Notably, a female arms trafficker was arrested in Zamfara with 300 rounds of ammunition, while the masterminds of the Ansaru and Mahmuda groups were apprehended. A kidnapped Taraba lecturer was also rescued unharmed.
Officials emphasized that while challenges remain including isolated cases of vandalism, communal clashes, and public-safety incidents security forces are prioritizing civilian protection, precision strikes, and community trust-building.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) confirmed it has activated its offices across all 36 states, the FCT, six zonal offices, and 774 local government areas to engage citizens directly through town halls, roadshows, worship centers, and traditional institutions. This initiative is designed to counter misinformation and enhance public understanding of security efforts.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, reaffirmed the government’s commitment:
“Our troops are degrading terror logistics and protecting communities. Citizens’ tips are turning into lifesaving operations, and we urge Nigerians to continue reporting suspicious movements, especially around transit corridors.”

The government further appealed to the media and public to rely on verified security channels to avoid fueling panic through unverified “alerts.”
With these results, the August 2025 JSPB underscores a shift toward stronger inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-driven actions, and citizen participation as pillars of national security.
