Abuja, August 12, 2025 — Nigeria and Israel have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on security, technology, trade, and economic development.
This was the outcome of a high-level political dialogue held in Abuja on Monday, August 11, 2025, between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Sharren Miriam Haskel-Harpaz.
Expanding Strategic Cooperation
During the dialogue, both sides underscored the importance of deeper collaboration in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and joint training, particularly in tackling terrorism financing and border security challenges.
The technical session, co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa, Director (Regions), Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Sharon Bar-Li, Deputy Director General and Head of the Africa Division at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, identified key areas of cooperation, including:
Technology and Innovation for Border Management
Agriculture and Food Security
Tourism and Cultural Exchange
Immigration and Consular Matters
Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange
Building Enduring Partnerships
Both nations pledged to sustain regular political dialogue, institutionalize cooperation mechanisms, and organize exchange study tours to strengthen capacity building.
The meeting was described as “comprehensive and productive,” reflecting the enduring strategic partnership between Nigeria and Israel.
Shared Global Outlook
Nigeria and Israel also emphasized solidarity on critical global issues, affirming that security and terrorism are shared concerns requiring collective action.
“This dialogue reinforces the strategic bond between our two nations and opens new avenues for cooperation that will benefit our peoples,” the communique noted.
Both countries agreed to work more closely to advance mutual interests in security, technology, trade, and development, while also contributing to global peace and stability.
