Abuja, August 15, 2025 – Nigeria has congratulated the government and people of India on the occasion of their Independence Day anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to deepening bilateral ties between both nations.
In a goodwill message to India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, commended the extraordinary determination, sacrifice, and vision of the Indian people in shaping their nation’s sovereignty and democratic progress.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Ambassador Tuggar highlighted the shared values of mutual respect, sovereignty, and commitment to global peace that continue to define Nigeria–India relations.

Over the years, both countries have fostered robust economic and diplomatic partnerships, anchored on trade, education, defense cooperation, capacity building, and cultural exchanges. Nigeria and India also collaborate actively within the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, and the G77 to promote global stability, peace, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to further expand economic cooperation, explore new areas of strategic partnership, and work jointly on global challenges for the unity, prosperity, and progress of both nations.
