The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Malawi on the successful and peaceful inauguration of His Excellency, Peter Mutharika, as the seventh President of the Republic of Malawi. The inauguration took place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in the nation’s capital, Blantyre.
Nigeria described the event as a remarkable demonstration of Malawi’s democratic resilience and the people’s unwavering commitment to the principles of good governance, peaceful transition, and respect for the rule of law.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, the Federal Government commended Malawians for conducting a credible electoral process that reinforces the nation’s democratic ideals.

“As brothers and partners, Nigeria shares in the joy and optimism of this new chapter for the Republic of Malawi. We are confident that under the leadership of President Peter Mutharika, the country will continue to achieve progress in national development, unity, and prosperity for all citizens,” the statement read in part.
Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Malawi in areas such as trade, agriculture, education, and security, emphasizing that such cooperation would further strengthen ties between the two nations and advance Africa’s collective growth and stability.
