The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed sympathy to the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam following the destruction caused by Typhoon Kajiki, which struck central Vietnam, leaving casualties, displacement, and widespread damage in its wake.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria extended its condolences to families who lost loved ones, as well as those whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed by the disaster.
Reports indicate that the typhoon triggered landslides and severe flooding, leading to three deaths, thirteen injuries, and damage to nearly 7,000 homes. The storm also caused widespread power outages and disruptions across the central and northern regions, including Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital.
Nigeria praised the swift response of Vietnamese authorities in conducting evacuations, coordinating emergency relief, and assisting citizens affected by the disaster.
“We are confident in the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese people, and their ability to overcome this adversity and rebuild stronger,” the statement read.
The Ministry reaffirmed that the thoughts and prayers of the Nigerian people are with Vietnam during this period of mourning and recovery.
