The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, on 10 December 2025 hosted the Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria, Her Excellency Ms. Sanna Selin, at Tafawa Balewa House for a comprehensive bilateral engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation between both nations.

According to the statement, the discussions spanned several strategic areas of mutual interest, including digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, internal security technology, sustainable mining, healthcare development, renewable energy, agriculture, and enhanced collaboration within multilateral frameworks. Ambassador Selin also informed the Ministry of Finland’s plan to open a Trade Office in Lagos, as well as her ongoing engagements across different parts of Nigeria in support of bilateral growth.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties with Finland, the Permanent Secretary pledged the country’s support for all ongoing and future initiatives that advance shared objectives. He emphasised that both nations stand to benefit significantly from expanded cooperation in innovation, trade, technology, and global development.
The meeting concluded on a warm and optimistic note, with both sides acknowledging that Nigeria–Finland relations have entered a promising phase defined by shared aspirations, complementary strengths, and a mutual resolve to promote peace, innovation, economic prosperity, and global cooperation.
