Nigeria and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, following a high-level diplomatic engagement between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and his Algerian counterpart, His Excellency Ahmed Attaf, in Algiers.
During their meeting, both ministers exchanged views on key strategic interests and pledged to strengthen cooperation across political, economic, and multilateral platforms. Particular emphasis was placed on revitalizing the Nigeria-Algeria Binational Commission, enhancing regional collaboration, and advancing Africa’s collective priorities on the global stage.
As part of efforts to further solidify ties, Ambassador Tuggar also led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new chancery building for the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers. The event, held at Dely Ibrahim the diplomatic enclave of the Algerian capital was attended by senior Algerian officials, Nigerian Embassy staff, and members of the Nigerian community in Algeria.
In his remarks, the Minister described the project as a milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to modernize its diplomatic missions. The new chancery building is designed to incorporate eco-friendly architecture, enhanced security systems, and improved facilities to ensure better consular services and conducive working conditions for foreign service personnel.
Construction is set to commence immediately and is expected to be completed within 18 months, in line with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ broader agenda to reform and strengthen Nigeria’s global diplomatic presence.
