‎Abuja — The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is inviting stakeholders across the communications ecosystem to contribute to the review of Nigeria’s National Telecommunications Policy (NTP), aiming to set the sector on a path for its next phase of growth.

‎This was contained in statement signed by  Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha Head, Public Affairs  NCC on February 18, 2026

‎According to the statement, the Executive Vice-Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, encouraged participation from licensees, consumers, government agencies, civil society organisations, international partners, and other interested parties. “We welcome expertise, feedback, and inputs from a cross section of stakeholders,” he said, stressing that the consultation will shape a policy framework that addresses emerging technologies, regulation, industry sustainability, and national security.

‎The original NTP, launched in 2000, replaced the 1998 policy and introduced liberalisation, modernisation, and competition during Nigeria’s early democratic era. It paved the way for rapid growth in mobile telephony and established the foundation for the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003.

‎Currently, the review focuses on 15 key policy proposals that will guide potential updates to the NTP

‎These proposals aim to ensure the communications sector remains innovative, competitive, and responsive to new challenges while aligning with the goals of the NCA, 2003.

‎Dr. Maida emphasised that stakeholder feedback will be critical in shaping a robust policy that balances industry growth, consumer protection, and national security considerations.
