The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as part of efforts to improve climate monitoring and enhance resilience in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
The partnership was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the National Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike.
During the visit, L-PRES handed over four Automatic Weather Observation Systems (AWOS) to NiMet to support improved weather monitoring across livestock-producing areas.
Abubakar congratulated Anosike on the public release of the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction, noting that the agency’s forecasts play a crucial role in supporting agricultural planning and climate adaptation efforts across Nigeria.

He stressed that the partnership with NiMet is critical for L-PRES in achieving its broader objective of strengthening resilience in the livestock value chain and helping farmers respond effectively to changing weather patterns. In response, Anosike commended L-PRES for procuring and donating the weather monitoring equipment, describing the gesture as a significant contribution to Nigeria’s weather observation infrastructure.
According to him, the new weather stations will be installed in rehabilitated grazing reserves across the country, providing localized and accurate weather data that will help livestock farmers make informed decisions. The improved access to weather information is expected to enhance productivity, reduce climate-related risks, and support sustainable livestock farming practices.
Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration, leveraging technology and scientific expertise to protect Nigeria’s livestock sector from climate challenges and improve the livelihoods of farmers nationwide.
