The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, mni, has congratulated the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.
In a statement issued on 30th June 2025 by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal Corps Public Education Officer Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja, Nigeria, describing the appointment as “historic” and “well-deserved,” the Corps Marshal praised the Customs boss for his unwavering commitment, visionary leadership, and excellence that have transformed the Nigeria Customs Service into a benchmark of professionalism and operational efficiency on the continent.
“The emergence of CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as Chairperson of the WCO Council is not only a personal triumph but a source of immense national pride,” Mohammed said. “It is a testament to Nigeria’s competence and the trust the international community places in our ability to contribute meaningfully to global customs and trade governance.”
In a related development, the Corps Marshal also celebrated Nigeria’s latest achievement in road safety diplomacy as the FRSC secured the position of Permanent Secretariat of the Africa Association of all Road Safety Lead Agencies (AARSLA).
He described the dual accomplishments as a reflection of Nigeria’s rising stature on the global stage, both in the fields of customs administration and road safety management.
“With the FRSC now serving as the permanent secretariat of AARSLA, we are strategically positioned to drive continental coordination on road safety initiatives, promote best practices, and build robust partnerships that align with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety targets,” Mohammed added.
According to him, the back-to-back successes of the Nigeria Customs Service and the FRSC underscore the nation’s emerging leadership in trade facilitation and traffic safety across Africa and beyond.
The Corps Marshal also expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for providing the enabling environment and strategic backing that has empowered Nigerian institutions to excel internationally. He reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication to strengthening inter-agency cooperation especially with the Nigeria Customs Service to build a safer, more prosperous Nigeria.
