Former Arsenal and Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The charges stem from allegations made by three separate women, with the incidents said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. The 31-year-old midfielder, who last played for Arsenal in the 2024/2025 Premier League season, is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
In a brief statement, the CPS confirmed:
“Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple offences including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to three complainants. The alleged offences occurred over a period spanning 2021 to 2022. The case will be heard at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.”
The Metropolitan Police have been investigating the allegations since 2022. Partey has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and legal representatives for the player have not yet issued a public statement in response to the charges.
Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in October 2020 and has earned over 40 caps for the Ghanaian national team. His footballing future remains uncertain as the legal proceedings unfold.
This case is expected to attract significant public and media attention due to the player’s high profile in both English and international football.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
