Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has officially declared open the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Executive Committee meeting, held virtually from Abuja.
In his address, Mallam Dikko congratulated the newly elected ANOCA Executive Committee, including Nigeria’s Engr. Habu Gumel, who was elected Treasurer at the ANOCA Congress in March 2025 in Algiers, Algeria.
Commending ANOCA’s continued efforts in promoting the Olympic Charter across Africa, Dikko reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support as host of the organization’s headquarters.
“The continued stay of ANOCA’s headquarters in Abuja has the full backing of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Dikko stated.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to providing every necessary support to ensure your smooth operations and continued presence in Nigeria.”
The Sports Commission chairman also took the opportunity to highlight the ongoing transformation in Nigeria’s sports sector, driven by the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigerian Sports Economy (RHINSE).
“The RHINSE program is anchored on three pillars Reset, Refocus, and relaunch as we reimagine the future of Nigerian sports,” he explained.
“We are shifting focus from merely participating in international tournaments to prioritizing domestic sports development and unlocking the potential of the sports economy as a tool for national growth.”
Mallam Dikko further solicited ANOCA’s support in Nigeria’s quest to host more international sporting competitions, stressing the country’s readiness to serve as a hub for continental and global events across all disciplines.
