Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), congratulates Commander Matuwo I. Olufokunbi of the United States Navy on his remarkable achievements.
Commander Olufokunbi, a proud Nigerian-American, has made history as the third Nigerian-American to assume command of a U.S. Navy Warship and notably, the first Nigerian-American to qualify as a Nuclear Engineer under the prestigious United States Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program.
In a congratulatory statement by Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Dabiri-Erewa described Commander Olufokunbi’s accomplishments as “a source of pride and inspiration not only to Nigerians in the diaspora but also to the entire nation.” She praised his resilience, excellence, and pioneering spirit, which reflect the strength, ingenuity, and global competitiveness of Nigerians worldwide.
“This is a reflection to the Nigerian spirit of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Commander Olufokunbi’s outstanding success demonstrates once again that Nigerians in the diaspora are excelling in every field of human endeavor,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
She further noted that his distinction in one of the most rigorous and elite programs of the U.S. military underscores the quality, discipline, and capability of Nigerians on the global stage.
Dabiri-Erewa urged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from Commander Olufokunbi’s journey, reminding them that with determination and integrity, they can reach the pinnacle of any career, anywhere in the world.
The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to celebrating, supporting, and engaging Nigerians in the diaspora, whose achievements continue to uplift the image of the nation internationally.
