The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Mr. Andrey Belousov, at the Ministry of Defense Building in Moscow.
In a statement signed by Signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau Director, Defense Information on May 11, 2025 stating that the visit was part of Nigeria’s expression of solidarity with the Russian Federation on the occasion of its Victory Day commemoration in honor of fallen heroes of World War II.

During the engagement, General Musa reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening military cooperation with Russia. The visit also presented an opportunity to highlight key operational requirements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, which could benefit from Russian support.
In response, the Russian Minister of Defence expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated his country’s readiness to enhance military assistance to Nigeria. He also emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral engagements, including the Intergovernmental Working Group and further cooperation between both nations’ armed forces.
