Enyimba International Football Club, under the leadership of Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu, have earned a cash reward of $400,000 (over ₦600 million) after finishing third in Group D of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite failing to progress beyond the group stage, the People’s Elephant have secured a significant financial boost from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), recognizing their efforts on the continental stage.
The two-time African champions have been on a mission to revive their former glory, with Kanu at the helm, guiding the club through an ambitious rebuilding process. This $400,000 payout comes on the back of another $1 million previously received from CAF’s African Football League over the last 18 months, bringing in vital funds for the club’s development.
While the campaign didn’t yield qualification to the knockout rounds, the financial windfall is a welcome incentive. It is expected to aid the team in strengthening their squad and refining strategies ahead of next season.
Kanu, a UEFA Champions League winner and Olympic gold medalist, has set high standards for Enyimba. He has challenged the team to either clinch the Nigeria Premier Football League title or finish among the top three to ensure continued participation in CAF competitions.
Enyimba’s performance also played a key role in securing Nigeria four slots in the 2025/26 CAF Inter-Club competitions—an important achievement for the country’s football reputation on the continent.
CAF’s increased investment in club football across Africa is helping teams like Enyimba remain competitive, with improved prize money structures now rewarding clubs more substantially for their efforts.
With Kanu’s leadership and the financial backing from CAF, Enyimba are poised to regroup and push for a stronger continental campaign in the coming seasons—hoping to reaffirm their status as one of Africa’s elite football clubs.
