Abuja, Nigeria – June 25, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially fixed Saturday, June 20, 2026 as the date for the governorship election in Ekiti State.
This announcement was contained in a public notice issued by the Commission on Wednesday. According to INEC, the election will be conducted in line with Section 28 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the Commission to provide at least 360 days’ notice ahead of any governorship poll.
The exercise will take place across all 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 2,445 polling units in the state, with voting scheduled to commence at 8:30 AM.
INEC emphasized that only registered voters whose names appear on the final register of voters and who present a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC) will be allowed to participate in the election. It reiterated its firm stance on the “No PVC, No Voting” policy.
To ensure transparency and credibility, INEC confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for the accreditation process, reinforcing its commitment to free and fair elections.
As political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders prepare for the critical contest in the South-Western state, INEC urged all eligible voters to ensure they are registered and possess their PVCs ahead of the poll.
The Commission concluded its announcement with a reassurance to the public:
“We remain committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. Making your vote count… Consolidating our democracy.”
