Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing the critical role of effective communication in shaping public perception and ensuring transparency during the convention process.

Speaking at the inauguration held at the Minister’s Conference Room, Radio House in Abuja, Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the committee, described the upcoming convention as a major milestone for the ruling party as it seeks to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate its political vision.

He noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently implementing key economic and governance reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the minister, the committee’s responsibility goes beyond publicity and includes ensuring accurate dissemination of information, coordinating media engagement, and projecting the processes and outcomes of the convention to both Nigerians and the international community.Idris said the subcommittee’s tasks would cover content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, coordination with other convention subcommittees, as well as documentation, media monitoring and performance evaluation of convention coverage across print and audiovisual platforms.

He urged members of the committee to approach the assignment with professionalism, creativity and integrity, adding that effective use of media platforms would be key to achieving broad and positive coverage of the convention.

The minister expressed confidence that the combined experience of members drawn from media, communications and political backgrounds would contribute significantly to the successful organisation of the 2026 APC National Convention.
