…Reaffirms Public Trust as a Strategic Enabler for Military Operations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on 9 December 2025 decorated the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the rank of Colonel in recognition of her exemplary dedication and outstanding service to the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement issued by Major Akinola Ajibola, Acting Staff Officer 1 (Information/Publicity), Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations, the decoration ceremony was held at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, the COAS commended Colonel Anele for her professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to upholding the ideals of the Nigerian Army. He urged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue projecting the Army’s image responsibly, credibly, and strategically.

Major General Alabi emphasised that public trust remains a critical enabler for successful military operations. He called for strengthened, transparent, and timely communication with Nigerians on the activities and engagements of the Nigerian Army, stressing that effective strategic communication is vital to sustaining public confidence in the Armed Forces.

The COAS further tasked Colonel Anele to continue demonstrating the highest standards of leadership, mentorship, and loyalty, noting that her role is key to enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of the Directorate.

In her remarks, Colonel Appolonia Anele expressed deep appreciation to Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS for their visionary leadership, guidance, and mentorship, which she described as instrumental to her professional growth.

The event was attended by senior and retired officers, including former Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), mni, and Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), mni, as well as family members, friends, and well-wishers who came to celebrate the milestone.
