Adeyanju Urges INEC to Remove Affected Candidates From Portal After Supreme Court Judgment
Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately comply with the recent Supreme Court decision concerning the Electoral Act.
Adeyanju, in a statement, urged the electoral commission to remove from its official portal the names of candidates of political parties affected by the judgment.
He said INEC is constitutionally required to enforce and comply with decisions of the Supreme Court, citing Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
According to him, the provision requires all authorities and persons to ensure that decisions of the Supreme Court are enforced.
Adeyanju therefore called on INEC to take all necessary steps to give full effect to the court’s orders without delay or selective implementation.
He maintained that the affected candidates should be removed from the commission’s portal in line with the Supreme Court’s decision.
“INEC must immediately remove from its official portal the names of all candidates of political parties affected by the judgment and take all necessary steps to ensure full compliance with the Court’s orders, without delay or selective implementation,” Adeyanju said.
