Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association in recognition of his career in public service and leadership.
Disu was honoured alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, at a reception held in Lagos on September 26, 2026.
The event celebrated distinguished former students of St. Gregory’s College who have made contributions in their respective fields of national service and leadership.
The award recognised Disu’s more than three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force, as well as his professional career since completing his secondary education at St. Gregory’s College in 1985.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the recognition highlighted his experience in frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping and senior command responsibilities.
Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has served in various operational and leadership positions.
His previous responsibilities include Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police, among other senior appointments.
He was appointed Inspector-General of Police in February 2026, becoming the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
The recognition also highlighted areas of policing that Disu has emphasised, including professionalism, intelligence-led operations, accountability, personnel welfare, community partnerships and the use of technology in public safety.
Speaking after receiving the award, the IGP thanked the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association for the recognition, describing the honour from his alma mater as particularly significant.
He reaffirmed his commitment to public service and to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force as a professional, accountable and people-centred institution.
The Nigeria Police Force said the recognition underscored the importance of education, mentorship, professional development and exemplary leadership in preparing individuals for service and national development.
