The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported a fault on a 100MVA transformer at its Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja, resulting in the loss of power supply to four 33kV feeders.
The TR4 transformer tripped in the early hours of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, according to a statement issued by TCN management.
Preliminary findings indicated that the incident was associated with oil spillage on the Red Phase high-voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer.
As a result, feeders H31, H33, H35 and H37 are currently out of supply.
TCN said its maintenance crew has commenced a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the transformer trip and establish the repairs required to restore the equipment.
The company said its engineers are working to restore bulk electricity supply through the affected transformer as quickly as possible.
TCN also apologised for the disruption and the inconvenience it may cause customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) who receive electricity through the affected feeders.
The company assured residents and other affected electricity consumers that restoration efforts are ongoing.
