The presidential candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuka, has unveiled his “New Direction” agenda for Nigeria, pledging to reposition the country through visionary leadership, strategic planning and people-centred governance ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an exclusive interview, Chukwuka said Nigeria must chart a new course that restores hope and creates opportunities for future generations.
According to him, many Nigerians now believe the country’s past was better than its present, a trend he described as a clear indication that the nation is moving in the wrong direction.
“Our motivation is simple. We must fix Nigeria. We cannot continue telling ourselves that yesterday was better than today. It is time to build a future where tomorrow is better than yesterday,” he said.
The DLA presidential flag bearer argued that successive administrations have failed to provide citizens with a clear national vision capable of inspiring confidence and long-term planning.
He said Nigerians deserve a system that enables them to pursue their ambitions with certainty and confidence.
“We need a direction where a young Nigerian can confidently say, ‘I want to become a doctor, an engineer or a journalist,’ and know that the system will support that dream,” Chukwuka stated.
He stressed that governance should move beyond responding to crises and instead focus on long-term national development driven by discipline, innovation and accountable leadership.
According to him, Nigeria possesses abundant human and natural resources that can transform the country’s economy if managed with competence and transparency.
Chukwuka also called on professionals and other credible Nigerians to participate actively in politics, saying meaningful change cannot be achieved if capable citizens remain on the sidelines.
“If good people continue to avoid politics because they think it is dirty, then those who make it dirty will continue to dominate it. We must participate if we truly want to clean the system,” he said.
The DLA candidate explained that his party’s vision is anchored on “Rewriting the History of Nigeria” through policies designed to strengthen public institutions, restore confidence in governance and place the welfare of citizens at the centre of national development.
Expressing optimism about the country’s future, Chukwuka said Nigerians are ready for a new political direction, adding that with responsible leadership, the nation has the potential to compete with the world’s leading economies.
